Engineering Arithmetic from Zero : Book 1 - THAI EDITION: Learn to Read the Expression Before You Calculate

Engineering Arithmetic from Zero — THAI EDITION
Book 1 — Learn to Read the Expression Before You Calculate
A calculation can go wrong before the arithmetic begins.

A denominator may extend farther than you think. An exponent may apply to a different base than you assumed. Multiplication and division may be handled in the wrong order. And when a formula is transferred from paper to a calculator, spreadsheet, or program, its original grouping can be lost.

Book 1 focuses on the skill that comes before calculation: reading the structure of a mathematical expression correctly.

Its central principle is simple:

Read the structure first. Calculate second.

Why memorizing rules is not enough
Memorizing PEMDAS is not enough if the structure behind the symbols is misunderstood.

Before calculating, this book trains you to ask:

What belongs together?
What is the numerator?
What is the denominator?
What does the exponent apply to?
Where is multiplication implied rather than written?
Which operations have equal precedence?
How can the same expression be rewritten without changing its meaning?
Instead of treating a formula as a string of symbols, you learn to read it as connected groups and subexpressions.

What this book does differently
——————–
Book 1 develops the skill through five layers:

Read the Symbols → Read the Structure → Read the Order → Read Real Engineering Equations → Transfer

You work with grouping, fraction bars, numerators and denominators, exponents and their bases, implicit multiplication, equal-precedence left-to-right evaluation, expression trees, representation transfer, and calculator-entry discipline.

You also practice moving mathematical expressions between textbook notation, calculators, spreadsheets, and software while preserving their original structure.

Later sections introduce real engineering equations from areas including mechanics, electrical engineering, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, energy, and engineering geometry. These equations are used to practice mathematical reading—not to teach the full engineering theory behind them.

The material is reinforced with illustrated explanations, expression diagrams, checkpoints, micro-checks, core practice, remedial routing, and extended transfer exercises. A Source Registry documents the mathematical and engineering references used throughout the book.

Why a Thai Edition?
The main explanations are presented in Thai so that readers can focus on the structure of the mathematics itself.

At the same time, standard mathematical and engineering terms remain in English throughout the book, reflecting the terminology, notation, software, textbooks, and technical sources readers will encounter in engineering study.

The purpose is not to replace technical English, but to provide a bridge:

Thai for understanding. Standard technical English for transfer.

This book may be useful if…
You want more practice identifying grouping, numerators, denominators, exponent bases, implied multiplication, or operation order; you want to preserve mathematical meaning when entering formulas into calculators or software; or you want a structured foundation before moving on to later mathematical and engineering study.

This book is not a complete course in mechanics, electrical engineering, heat transfer, or fluid mechanics. It introduces equations from these areas for the purpose of learning to read their mathematical structure.

If that is the skill you want to build, Book 1 starts there:

Learn to see what the expression says before you calculate what it equals.
